Abruzzo

Abruzzo

Stuck in the centre of a slow-moving low-pressure system we didn’t have the best of weather for this week in the Abruzzo, Central Italy.  Led by Francesco we did get off to a cracking start with two memorable days in Majella including the justifiably famous Rava della Vespa.  However, cloud and rain followed which severely limited our achievements to a lightning ascent of 2331m Monte Tremoggia which we started at 3pm in a hail and graupel storm and one day scratching around in near zero vis at Gran Sasso.

The weather could have been a lot better but not the company, food and of course the coffee.  The theme during the second part of the week was unquestionably gastronomic.

We enjoyed Aperitivi, Antipasti, Primi Piatti, Secundi Piatti and Dolci (we skipped the salad and cheese) accompanied with excellent Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.  Pinsa with bufala boccocini, lamb arrosticini and Gioletti ice creams were also savoured.

On some trips we lose weight.  Not on this one!
